The ‘Cracked Mirror’ paintings weave together threads from carnival, dance and costume, colour, pattern, animals, symbolism, escape and the human body.
Painted in 2020, while in strict lockdown, they play with the human urge to push against established patterns. These figurative paintings, based in the artist’s own experiences, find moments when the spaces in systems or cracks in everyday life allow bursts of chaos, elation, release, humour and transformation to squeeze through.
They were painted for the ‘Silver’ exhibition, the 25th Anniversary of the Bridge Street Studios. Members’ work was installed in shop fronts all over Dundalk town centre as an art walking tour.
